Will There Be Gun Laws for Protection of Law-Abiding Nebraskans?

With the recent rash of school and other mass shootings, some officials across the USA are taking actions that will allow school teachers and other staff to carry concealed weapons on school grounds. This allows school staff to protect the lives of their students and not have to wait for law enforcement to show up.

Officials in Nebraska are not taking these actions, but individual volunteers are by trying to get initiatives on the November ballot so students and others can be protected.

Currently, there are many initiatives circulating throughout Nebraska. Most people are aware of the highly funded voter ID initiative, but many Nebraskans are not aware of the initiatives which give law-abiding Nebraskans greater ability to protect themselves.

The top 3 self-protection initiatives are Constitutional Carry, Stand Your Ground, and Full Access. Constitutional Carry will allow individuals who are legally allowed to carry firearms, to not have to be forced to continually re-register permits to carry a weapon, as they must do now. Stand Your Ground will allow you to protect yourself and others no matter where you are. Full Access will allow you to carry protection wherever the public is allowed to go if armed protection is not provided.

The sponsors of these initiatives are former Marines Robert Rhodes and Michael Connely, both with law enforcement and weapons backgrounds. Mr. Rhodes has been an engineering contractor for Northrup working on missile control systems. Mr. Connely (former candidate for Governor) has worked in both military intelligence and as military police. When asked why they made these initiatives to put on the November ballot, Connely stated:

“The politicians in the White House have armed security who protect them, but in our schools, the students are vulnerable to attack from bad actors. Mass shootings never occur in police stations or other locations where there are armed protectors. The bad elements of our society target gun-free zones where people cannot defend themselves or the innocent people around them. Our initiatives allow the protectors to defend the innocents in our society.”

The deadline to turn in the 125,000+ required signatures for the initiatives in order to have them on the November ballot is on July 7. The 4th of July will most likely be the last day to collect signatures. Connely, Rhodes, and other Initiative managers and volunteers are calling for individuals, businesses, and organizations across the state to step up and assist in this volunteer-funded drive to get these important initiatives on the November ballot.
